These are the days

I miss sunlight, Milledge Avenue, halter tops, flip flops, Hodgsons, cold beer on sunny decks, throwing the football on the front lawn, Steverinos, playing hoops to 21 with no one keeping score, shorts, Brumby Beach, fishing, the driving range, Kudzu Hill, walking to Guthries, Legion Pool, cruising Baldwin, going to the Creamery, happy hour, Calientitos, $1PBRs, window shopping on Clayton, a slice at Little Italy, street theater on College Square, FO walking, and a rocking chair on the front porch of 785.

  1. I'm reminded of those afternoons when the cold finally let up and the sun came out. As guys would get out their last classes for the day (the last classes they actually would attend, anyway), there'd be a buzz at the fraternity house. "When does [the treasurer] get out of class? Is he here?" An increasing crowd would gather, lying in wait for the treasurer to come home. "Can we buy a keg?" "Let's buy a keg." "Don't you think we should get a keg?"

And if he gave in, thirty minutes later, there'd be a full deck, rocking chairs, a guitar or two, the warm sun, a cool buzz, and life as it's meant to be lived.
