Well, that wasn't easy. The Dawgs put away UAB 66-64 on Trey Thompkins' 20 points and nine boards. The Dawgs, as has been their MO, sprinted out to a big lead and let UAB back in it. I didn't see the game, but from the games I have seen live and on TV, it sure feels like the team is still struggling with just being happy with a lead, instead of taking that lead and burying a team. I know teams will always have runs (UAB started the 2nd half with a 10-2 run to get back in it), but at some point, you have to stop that run and turn the momentum around.
Some of that is floor leadership. Having Trey out for the first few games created a funny dynamic on the floor, where other guys had to step up. Now that he is back, there seems to be a bit of a struggle to figure out what floor leadership is.
Hopefully, they will figure it out this week.
The Dawgs take on Tech in Atlanta on Tuesday. I'll have more on the Jackets, but they are not a team you can allow back into the game if you have a double digit lead. Tip is 7pm on ESPN2.
