Pearl Gets Hamiltoned for Lying to NCAA

I guess Mike Hamilton had to come down hard on someone.  Bruce Pearl is the unfortunate outlet of that three year long build up of angst, anger and rueful decisions.  Kinda like the lady working the overnight shift at the buffet at an off strip casino, Pearl was unfortunate enough to screw up Hamilton's scrapple and eggs order on the night Hamilton just knew hard 2s were gonna hit and bet the whole trailer payment on them.

Of course, someone rolled a 3 and 1 on the comeout.

In all honesty, there wasn't too much Hamilton could do after it came out Pearl lied to the NCAA during the investigation.  You can do all kinds of stuff, like beat down people (but not sell jerseys) and not draw much institutional ire from the boys in Indy.  Lying to them, that is a whole different ball of wax.

The result:
"Hamilton is reducing Pearl's pay by $1.5 million over five years and prohibiting him from participating in off-campus recruiting for one year."
The assistants are taking 25% pay cuts and will have recruiting restrictions, too.

The upside for Georgia is obvious.  Pearl has made a living recruiting the Atlanta AAU circuit.  Now, he'll not be doing any of that, nor does it look like many of his assistants will, either.  The door is wide open for Coach Fox to make significant inroads in that area now.

  1. I work at a local Atlanta high school and Pearl recruited and signed one of our kids last year. Pearl could sale sand on a beach. The guy is an amazing recruiter and to not have him in Atlanta for a year or any where else is a huge plus for the dawgs.

  2. What happened to "he was drunk and didn't mean it" as a means of beating the rap?
