Enough is enough - solution to Damon-gate is simple

At this point if you're a UGA fan, you start to wonder if this is an episode of Punk'd: "All right, Ashton, ha-freaking-ha, come on out!"

The tragedy of Damon-gate seems to know no limits. As one subscriber on the Dawgvent observed, I too thought it was notable that the arresting officer sought to ask Damon's passenger how long they'd been seeing each other and then included it in the report. How is this relevant? Nothing was stolen and nobody was assaulted. It seems a bit unnecessary and almost like piling on.

As of press time, we can only imagine two things: (1) When the hell is Adams getting back to Athens to clean up this mess and (2) I wish the lawyers would hurry up and mesh out the severance issue so we can all get on with our lives. It's already been a long 48 hours. At the start of this thing, I was thinking "Damon, you break our hearts." Now it feels more like the Roethlisberger Syndrome; you just don't want to see his face anymore.

Speaking of Big Ben, I've flashed back not only to his faux paus but also of Tiger Woods, Jeff Dantzler, Neil Calloway, Larry Eustachy, Ed Podolak, Steve Deberg....even Tebow comes to mind with the crying thing. If you've followed sports, most of those don't need explaining. Some of those guys kept their jobs while others didn't. Damon's case seems to have elements of all of those. So sad, so very sad for his family in all this.

The DUI alone merits his dismissal. I've learned one immutable fact in dealing with young people and it's this: if you want their respect, you HAVE to back up what you say. All the other nonsense makes this move a no-brainer.

People are already clamoring for Coach Dooley as the interim AD and Greg McGarity as the long-term guy. I see no reason why you don't promote Frank Crumley, the senior associate AD pronto. That's what he is there for. UGA will win regardless of who the AD is. The University will overcome this.

To all Techies who think this is funny, consider two things: (1) We respect Paul Johnson and most of us would never make light of something that so drastically affects a man's wife and kids. (2) Prepare for another ass whipping come November.

  1. The second the officer says, "You have the right to remain silent," STFU!

Geez, could he really be this dumb?

And keep in mind that Damon was about to get some ass...from a girl.....that isn't something that a techie would know anything about!

  3. The officer asked that question to ascertain whether there was any "red light district" shenanigans going on imho.

It is actually a pretty smart question by the trooper. He was most likely trying to determine if the girl was a high end lady of the night.

  4. Good point, Rus. At first glance, she didn't exactly look like a real estate agent.
