Dawgs give Robinson his walking papers

University of Georgia Coach Mark Richthas officially parted ways with trouble-prone linebacker Montez Robinson -- and not a moment too soon. The school's website confirmed the move Monday and also suggested that Robinson will be leaving school altogether, quoting Richt to the effect that he hopes Robinson will eventually get his degree, wherever he winds up.

Robinson, a converted D-lineman, was already suspended for the start of the 2010 season due to an alcohol infraction. It should be no surprise to anyone who has watched Robinson on the field, either. I remember thinking this guy was trouble after seeing him draw 15 yards for ripping a guy's helmet off last season. He probably should have been ejected for that stunt. It also took place at a time when UGA was under the microscope for its glut of penalties during the Richt era.

Bloggers and radio-callers alike will no doubt use this as another opportunity to scream that Richt has no control of his players. I dissent from that view. At every turn when Richt has encountered severe circumstances, he has dealt swiftly and definitely.

Maybe, though, it's time to start scouting the caliber of player he recruits a bit more closely.

Jimmycrackedcorndawg, like Chris Kattan's doppleganger, sometimes feels like a nut; sometimes he don't.
