ATHENS --Freshman catcher Brett DeLoach, a product of the tiny hamlet of Blackshear, Georgia (also hometown of publisher Exilus Maximus) belted his first collegiate homer Saturday in a 9-8 UGA win over Stetson.
DeLoach's two-run shot in the third boosted his season RBI total to four. The freshman backstop is now batting .231 on the season.
Comparatively, sophomore Christian Glission, the Dawgs' left-handed hitting option behind the plate, is logging a team-leading .474 average.
DeLoach has appeared in five of the Dawgs' games, starting twice. Glisson has appeared in all seven contests, starting the other five games.
UGA is now 5-2 on the season. The Dawgs will go for the sweep against the Hatters Sunday at Foley Field.
DeLoach is the son of David and Terri DeLoach.
