Dawgs Announce Baseball Slate

The Diamond Dawgs announced their 2010 schedule this week and will open the season in Waco, Texas, with a four game round robin against Baylor and Duke February 19-21. The season culminates with a three game home stand against Kentucky May 20-22.

A few key dates:
  • Alabama in Hoover: March 3 (does not count in SEC standings)
  • FSU in Tallahassee: March 5-7
  • SEC opener: Auburn at Foley, March 19-21
  • Against defending CWS champion LSU in Baton Rouge: April 2-4
  • Georgia Tech at Foley: April 14
  • Georgia Tech at Turner: May 18 ("Spring Baseball Classic for Kids")
I like the game against Alabama at Hoover. Coach Perno is looking to improve Georgia's past performance in the SEC tournament. A regular sesason game at the venue can only help. The Dawgs face Alabama in a 'non-conference' game next season at the Gwinnett Braves stadium in 2011.

We'll know a lot about this team after the two week road trip to Mississippi State (March 26-28), then to Alex Box against LSU the next weekend. If the Dawgs come out of those two weekends at 20-8 or so and 6-3 in the SEC, I think they'll be set up pretty good. They also go on the road against College World Series participant Arkansas the weekend after the Georgia Tech game at Foley.

The SEC tournament is scheduled for May 26-30 in Birmingham. The College World Series will be at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha (for what is likely the) last time June 19-30.

Beyond Tech, what series stands out to you?

  1. I think the FSU series stands out the most. My question is are they going to return the favor and come to Athens for a series the next year?
